If you are referring to these cults, then yes, those who are tricked into joining them are also used for all sorts of purposes including unpaid labor, sexual exploitation, agents of infiltration etc. They are kept away from their loved ones and all "outsiders" they are taught never to trust. They use various and often sophisticated forms of mind control including sleep and diet manipulation, blackmail, drugs, peer pressure, hypnosis, physical violence, etc.

Note the Governor says that he chose to learn Mandarin Chinese as an "investment" and as a pragmatic decision. No mention of trying to understand and build bridges of understanding or perhaps even to be able to educate fellow Americans about the misconceptions and lies spread about China. These other cults operating in China, no different in nature, methods and intentions than Falun Gong, have to be exposed along with those that promote them--even with a smile and in fluent Mandarin.
