| Any Chinese person who is loyal to the socialist motherland and who uses or accesses any foreign website like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, BBC, NY Times, CNN, etc, etc. is in fact a traitor & should be arrested, thrown in prison & the key thrown away. Patriotic Chinese should only read Party-approved websites like Xinhua & Peoples Daily. After all Xinhua & Peoples Daily have all the news any Chinese citizen would need to know. Knowledge is a dangerous thing & too much knowledge is subversive. |

"Leave China alone. It must do what it thinks is best for its society. Let it be.
A sovereign government does not need any country"s approval nor the opinion of foreigners so who do not know any better. Those who apply their norms and values to the Chinese culture must look at how they will react if China imposes its standards on them."
Are you saying that China has no intentions of "imposing" it"s WILL on other nations??? hmmmm, are you really that brain washed? |

| Facebook was a great way to stay in communication with all my Chinese friends. Since blocking facebook I no longer see their photos and hear their stories and have lost communication with many of them. What ever happened to China"s open door policy? In 2009 it seems the CCP is more concerned with closing doors and holding military parades than becoming a good global citizen. |

| Haha... can anyone explain to me how a sample taken at Huanqiu.com represents the entirety of Chinese "netizens"? Moreover, how could a Facebook group possibly serve as a "...foothold for "Xinjiang independence" organizations" collusion and alliance overseas"? Most importantly, how do the results of a survey titled "Do you think Facebook should immediately close its "Xinjiang independence" group?" lead to the complete ban of the world"s most popular social networking website? Finally, I"m willin... (More details.) |

Should Facebook be Punished?
I fear that, in punishing Facebook, China will inflict a greater hurt upon itself and its people, than they would on Facebook.
It is difficult for Westerners to understand how the rantings of the Uygurs can be worth mention, much less call for ‘punishing’ the mere medium (Facebook) in which a slander (or worse) has occurred.
History is written by the winners.
In the United States, the winners of the American Revolution recognized that their enterprise would not... (More details.) |

| I live in the West and I can tell you that if Facebook was banned in the West, people would waste less time and actually do some work during the day and have a real family life on the weekends. So I am all in favor of banning Facebook and other time-wasters such as Twitter. |

| This is a worthwhile discussion. Whatever is your point of view, I hope readers can express views in a reasonable and polite and respectful manner. China is now among the greatest Nations on earth, and the leadership over the past 19.5 years has shown enormous benevolence, wisdom and restraint. Blocking websites though is a bit like trying to stop water running down from a high place to a lower place; eventually it will find it"s way through a different path. China is such a great Nation, it s... (More details.) |

| the proof of 80% comes from Chinese netizens,ok? However, I think Facebook has done nothing wrong. A website is just a place for fun talking, also for gossips and rumors. What"s more, in the world there are too many websites to ban. What we need to do to protect our people from the Greek gift is to inhance the education. |

I lived on and off for almost three years in china, my experience as an American there is limited because of my language barrier. I felt secure and at peace there, learning much about it"s history and culture. Now back in the states I cannot help but miss China. I hope to go back again soon. I thank the Chinese for the kindnesses I experienced and their
patience with my slowness and confusion at times.

How can you control the internet. Internet is like the element of nature (like earth, air, fire, water and space).
Napolean said "Pen is mightier than sword". He had to bow down before the pen.
This kind of thinking that you can control any thing and everything comes because you are not a democratic nation. |

This is hilarious. I have lived in China, and among Chinese for years, and SORRY but Chinese people often have zero critical thinking skills.
The very FACT that this forum lists your IP ADDRESS demonstrates that the Chinese government is watching those who post here..

| The fact that China could even consider "punishing" facebook, let alone do it, shows just how much is wrong with the place. The ability to speak one"s mind is a gift from the State and Party, to be exercised only so much as they allow. The leadership is so insecure that it feels compelled to control things so tightly, that websites must be "punished" for not exercising the same control. It"s like that business with the Mohammed Cartoons - that made me wnat to establish a wesite called mohamme... (More details.) |
