China simply lacks the political and economic maturity as a "nation of the world" to possess such awesome military power. China would try to convert that military might into political/economic power to use on the world stage at a time when it plays by its own rules. If China would "honor" the rules of international commerce, maybe more would tolerate the thought of China possessing military firepower of that magnitude.

in regards to China"s aircraft carrier, China does not need to always justify it"s actions to the entire world. None of the european nations do it. Before China can get any respect from the world, it must stop this practice.

Very reasonable opinion regarding the acquisition of an aircraft carrier. In my opinion there are other forces at work, namely those of the international arms industry, that benefit from playing up the threat from China getting into the a/c carrier business.
