In the western media, all news and opinion are commodities to be produced for sale and so-called journalists, are entrepreneurs.
for the western journalist, ACCESS is the coin of the realm. ACCESS brings him or her "SCOOPS" or inside stories he or she is the first to get. SCOOPS bring EXPOSURE. EXPOSURE brings CELEBRITY. And CELEBRITY brings even more ACCESS...
But ACCESS in the western commodified media is based on NOT asking the right questions or not asking certain Taboo questions at all. The... (More details.) |

| The Chinese netizens may be emotional, but you must know the reason. Many Chinese people living overseas for long time also have become resentful of the biased news reports made by many of the western media. I belong to an overseas family who have lived in North America for 5 generations, and we do not care about politics. We are not PRC citizens either. But I and my Chinese friends (middle-aged men and women) are also angry. It is obvious that the reports made by CNN, BBC, and many others do ... (More details.) |

| Not all people in the west are racists. The Chinese know that. Neither are the Chinese people anti-western. Western viewers need to understand that. Don"t exaggerate the issue, even though many Chinese netizens are emotional recently. If your country is slandered maliciously, and all facts have been ignored by some of the journalists and politician, how would you feel. Western viewers who do not harbour any prejudice against the Chinese people should not have to worry. I am educated in the USA, ... (More details.) |

It is sad to read the postings of Chinese netizens which are so full of sentiment but so short of reason.
As Zhou Xiaozheng, a sociologist at People’s University in Beijing has noted:
“This just shows that Chinese people have lived too long in a world with unbalanced information. After listening too long to only one side of the story, we have developed zero tolerance for a difference of opinion. In this mindset, you are either on our side or you deserve to be stepped on forever.”
After all... (More details.) |

| I think you are exaggerating a bit. I read CNN online every day, BBCNews.com, and the People"s Daily along with the LA Times and other US news outlets. Almost all Chinese coverage is positive. Overwhelmingly positive. Between the earthquake and the embarassing Western trying to put out the torch nonsense, nearly everything I read puts China in a positive light. Go ahead and call us racists or whatever, but as an average working class American, I just don"t see any significant negative media... (More details.) |

| I think western medias have their own goals to fulfill and not to tell what is the truth. They just want to destabilize other countries, especially those they think could be their rivals. |

| Perhaps the greatest step forward China can make is to allow a free and open press. I love China, it"s a fascinating amazing country, but I would love its people to be able to express their views without fear of legal consequences. It is allowed in Hong Kong, why not all of China? |

| Americans would like to engage China in a online dialog about this and other issues but cannot because of censorship. I do not blame China because US newspapers also censor Americans. Has anyone here tried to post on the New York Times website? I am just saying that meaningful open dialog between the people of China and the US is not possible. |

| As the Beijing Olympic is nearing, we can see the emergence of Sino-phobic coverages originated by mainstream mass-media based in (ex)/(neo)-colonist territories. From an impersonal point of view this unexpected phenomenon can be described as Olympic sabotage to hinder growth and self-esteem in any where outside their imperial territories. Among them the most outrageous propaganda was aired by CNN. For years CNN has been notorious for it"s regularly biased broadcasting over middle east. Then BBC... (More details.) |

| I fully agree with your assessment. The western media is always demonizing China. In the recent China earthquake you don"t hear of looting. Yet, in our 9/11 collapse of the 2 towers, the media did not mention of looting. But my own son, who"s a member of the NYPD was on duty and witnessed the looting of stores and dead bodies. yet, our media praise our moral righteosness and never our turpitude. The Communist party was the best thing that happened to China. They brought the country togeth... (More details.) |

The current generation of Western journalists should bury their heads in shame and go down in the history of journalism as the most unethical and despicable the world has ever seen. They should not even be called journalists but be dimissed with ignominy as liers, falsifiers, slanderers and racists.

| Shen Xinggeng, we are staggered by the inept and ignorant "news" that has accompanied the Olympic Torch on its journey. We laowai from Australia have lived in Zhongguo for four years and we wouldn"t have stayed that long had China been as "guilty of human rights" as is alleged by Western Press. It"s libelous, wrong and damaging to the notion of truth. |

How can the global press not be referring to the Lhasa actions as terrorism?
No one has picked up on the blarringly obvious fact that the EU and NATO nations are state sponsoring terrorism in Lhasa, Myanmar (not to mention Chechneya). |

| Banning misguided reporters will not solve anything. Let them come to China. Let them see for themselves what the real China is. No one who has really been to China can come away but be impressed. Everything China is today she had built herself. And what a great society and great country we have created. Yes, we still have a long way to go in many areas. But the road is well made and safe to travel. It leads to a future we all want to reach. Those who are friends are welcome to travel w... (More details.) |

"The reasons we learned from the Internet this time have even enabled commoners in China to acquire an in-depth understanding, let alone the students of journalism, and I indeed have a sense of joy from the bottom of my heart."
We very much agree with you. We feel China must progress in a time-table and evovle in a way that Chinese feels best for themselves - NOT what the West tell China must do.
Don"t forget too - there are many Westerners with common sense. We would like to share with you th... (More details.) |
